                         INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
                       FOR FS2000 TREES LIBRARY SDK
                       Release 2 Upgrade, 2000-12-17
                     --------------------------------

                     ********************************

This upgrade for the FS2000 Trees Library performs two functions:

  - It upgrades Library Module 0 to a new 'Release 2' standard. The new
standard has improved coding for the Trees library objects with better
3D effects etc. Only the library BGL is changed - the texture files
are not affected. (Note that the objects in the new BGL are NOT
compatible with the pre-upgrade Release 1 SDK - you must upgrade the
SDK as well using the rest of this 'Release 2 Upgrade'.

  - It completely replaces the SDK with a Release 2 version compatible
with the modified Release 2 Library Modules. The new SDK also has
improved documentation and now includes SCM versions of the macros for
the benefit of ASD 2.1 users.

The upgrade is NOT useable by itself. You MUST download and install
Release 1 of Library Module 0 first - you will find it in various libraries
on the internet as TREES_0.ZIP. You do not, however, require Release 1 of
the SDK (TREE_SDK.ZIP) as that is completely replaced by this upgrade.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
=========================
There are three steps:
1. Install Release 1 of Libray Module 0 if you have not already done so
2. Upgrade Module 0 to Release 2
3. Install the Release 2 SDK, which totally replaces the Release 1 SDK

1. Install Release 1 of Library Module 0
   -------------------------------------
Follow the Installation instructions provided in the README.TXT file
   accompanying that module.

2. Upgrade Module 0 to Release 2
   -----------------------------
Unzip TREES_02.ZIP into any suitable temporary folder. Now delete the
TREES_0.BGL file from whichever \scenery folder you placed it in during
Step 1, and replace it with the TREES_02.BGL file you have just
unzipped. Similarly, replace the old index file TREES_0.TXT with the
new one, TREES_02.TXT. You do not need to change the filenames.

3. Install the Release 2 SDK
   -------------------------
NOTE TO UPGRADERS: If you have previously installed Release 1 of this
SDK, the new installation will simply overwrite any changed files.

API MACROS: You will want these if you are an Airport user, or use some
other scenery design program that likes it's macros in API format.
If your scenery design tool is ASD, you will want the SCM macros
instead and may want to discard the API versions.
To install the API versions, unzip the contents of API.ZIP into your
usual API folder (e.g. c:\Program Files\Apt260\api - or wherever you
keep them). No 'resource' bitmaps are included for the time being
      - if you want to see what your trees will look like, have a peek at
the texture files (but DON'T alter them). If you previously
installed Release 1 of the SDK, don't worry about overwriting the
previous API's, you no longer need them. You can also delete the
previous macro called TREE1.API as it has been replaced by a renamed
      one called TRSINGLE.API

SCM MACROS: You will want these if you are an Abacus Airport & Scenery
Designer (c) user, or use some other scenery design program that
likes it's macros in SCM format. If your scenery design tool is
Airport or, like Airport, uses the API format, you may want to
discard the SCM versions. Of course, some of you will want to keep
and use BOTH versions ... I use both myself from time to time.
To install the SCM versions, unzip the contents of SCM.ZIP into the
folder <ASD>\ASDesign\Macros, where the rest of ASD's version 2
macros reside, or wherever else you normally keep your SCM macros.
No image bitmaps are included for the time being.

DOCUMENTATION: Unzip the DOCS.ZIP archive into any convenient folder.
If you previously installed Release 1 of the SDK, use the same folder
and allow the new files to overwrite the old ones. Some of the
document files are REQUIRED READING - the macros are not particularly
easy to use and you will not get the best from them without doing the
necessary homework. You will also need to know how to avoid certain
pitfalls that may lead to 'Missing Object' errors when running FS2000
      - or even crash FS2000 altogether. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !!!

Happy Flight-Simming!
